925 silver

When you hear 925 silver jewelry, you immediately think that this alloy is “grey” in color. Effectively, silver is basic grey. However, we offer you jewelry in pink or gold, how is this possible?

925 silver

925 silver or sterling silver, what is it?

It is an alloy composed of 92.5% pure silver mixed with 7.5% copper (or other metal). Because silver is a very soft metal, this combination gives it the hardness needed to make solid jewelry. This alloy was already used in the 12th century mainly to make coins. There are pieces or jewelry from older times, but they are not made of 925 silver.

Although there are jewels made entirely of 925 silver, like ours, it should be noted that a jewel notified as "silver plated" does not have the same composition and is therefore not made mainly of silver. true. It simply has a micro-layer that covers another metal (beware of allergies). It is therefore not 925 silver that composes it, unlike our Cybelles Bijoux jewelry.

It is common to be able to identify a 925 hallmark on jewelry in order to certify that they respect this alloy.

Thus, our jewels are made using 925 silver alloy and not simply covered with a layer of a few microns of silver.

There are various methods to tint 925 silver. Plating and vermilion, as well as gilding are made of a very thin layer of gold, in different dosages, which covers the original piece. Gold powder is mixed with a solution in order to be able to cover a necklace, a bracelet or any other metal object. Thus, our 925 silver jewelry can be covered with a thin layer of gold.

You also find jewelry that is not 925 silver, but gold plated. Beware of the original metal, allergies can occur despite the gold on the surface.

The most common process is galvanizing. It is done by electrochemistry. The piece of jewelry is immersed in a solution that contains gold and an electric current stabilizes the solution on the desired piece. This device makes it possible to deposit a colored and uniform layer on the 925 silver. This layer is thin and makes it possible to preserve the delicacy of the jewel. This process originated in Italy, in 1802. Of course, today the process is much simpler than it was then and is heavily used in the jewelry world.

In order to offer you quality jewelry, but at an affordable price, we have chosen galvanization as a method to color our jewelry in gold, pink, but also black. Thus, our jewels are made of 925 silver then, to tint them, they go through a galvanizing process which gives them a soft gilding .

We are happy to announce that we are in training to be able to gild the jewelry ourselves in our workshop.

Because the gold layer remains thin, it is best to avoid putting your jewelry in contact with water or perfume. In addition, with perspiration, the color may fade over time, this is normal.

That said, we wear our colored jewelry regularly and haven't noticed any significant differences. A crash test was carried out on a bracelet for a year and the result seemed consistent and satisfactory to us.

Our jewels are guaranteed nickel-free, made of 925 silver, so no risk of allergies!
