Jewellery, a 130,000 year old story!

Many companies have created ornaments, each more magnificent than the next. Find out here how jewelry has evolved since the very first.

The first jewel is much older than we think. It dates back 130,000 years! Composed of eagle claws, it was worn by Neanderthals in Croatia.

For the pharaohs, jewelry was mainly made from stones. Their function was more than merely ornamental. These coins indicated the status of the wearer. Their aesthetic value is, of course, undeniable. By wearing these jewels, the Pharaoh was protected from the dangers of earthly life.

Crafted in gold, silver, copper or earthenware, Ancient Egyptian jewelry is often adorned with stones. Each stone has its own properties. The rabbit-lazur, blue stone, adorns the tombs and coffins. It symbolizes the regeneration of the cosmic gods. We notice the finesse and the delicate mastery of the goldsmith's work. Some necklaces, for example, are imposing chest adornments that women wear naked.

These jewels were also often talismans and protect their owners.

In the antiquity of our Cybele, only very wealthy personalities could afford the luxury of wearing jewelry in gold or other precious materials. These objects had the function of making known the social status, but also, to embellish the people who wear them. The ornaments were therefore reserved only for the elite of society. The people could wear jewelry made from other materials such as shells or earthenware. The jewels were very often adorned with stones such as amethyst, agate or garnet.

In ancient Rome, coins set in jewelry were common and passed down from mother to daughter.

In Ancient Greece, jewelry was so important that the deceased were adorned with it in order to pass into the afterlife.

Today, the jewel has become a trivialized object and everyone has it.

At the house of Cybelles, we want everyone who wears our jewelry to feel (as) beautiful as an ancient goddess! Our jewelry will match all personalities and bring a special touch to all your outfits. With our 925 silver ornaments, you will feel ready to conquer the whole world!
